Dody and Earl Kinsella - Wife Living with Heart Condition and Her Husband, Household Contact
Each year, for more than 20 years, Dody and Earl Kinsella have faithfully received their flu shots. As older Americans, they know they are at a higher risk for complications from this serious virus. But Dody also has lived with a serious heart condition for over 15 years, and contracting the flu would put her at an even greater risk for complications.1 "When I had aortic surgery to help correct my condition, the doctor gave me less than a 20 percent chance of survival,” Dody said. “I’ve had to take chances with my life because of my heart condition, and I’ve survived. But getting the flu because I didn’t get vaccinated is a chance I would never take." The Kinsella’s also get vaccinated so they can enjoy spending time with their younger family members, including their children and grandchildren, and not have to worry about contracting influenza.
