About Faces of Influenza

The Faces of Influenza campaign is designed to put a "face" on influenza, a potentially deadly disease, and urge everyone 6 months of age and older to get vaccinated each year.

The Faces of Influenza portrait gallery features portraits of many famous and everyday Americans. These "faces" – including national spokesperson, Olympic Gold Medalist, and mother of 2 children, Kristi Yamaguchi – are committed to encouraging Americans to get their influenza immunizations and helping to prevent the spread of influenza. "As a mother, I know my whole family needs to be immunized, and that's a responsibility that I take seriously. Not only is it important that my daughters get vaccinated, but my husband and I, and our parents need to get vaccinated too. People at all ages need to be protected against the flu."

Influenza is a serious respiratory illness. Each year in the US, on average, flu and its related complications result in approximately 226,000 hospitalizations.1 Depending on virus severity during the influenza season, deaths can range from 3000 to a high of about 49,000 people.8

We all are "faces" of influenza and should be vaccinated each and every year. We urge you to learn more about vaccination, which is the best protection against the flu virus.1

Faces of Influenza educational initiative is brought to you by the American Lung Association and is made possible through a collaboration with sanofi pasteur.
